Kimetsu no Yaiba adapted the Action-supernatural manga Koyoharu Gotouge with the same title, which began airing on April 6. Aniplex of America licensed the anime series and distributed it on Crunchyroll, Funimation, and Hulu. The Adult Swim’s Toonami program will air the anime in English on October 12.

Prior to the serialization, Gotouge received a distinguished speech at the 70th Newcomer Manga Awards 2013 Jump Treasure for the one-shot category, which became a prototype for Kimetsu no Yaiba. The latter began serialization in Weekly Shounen Jump in February 2016. Shueisha published the 16th volume on July 4th, with the 17th volume planned for release on October 4th. Kimetsu no Yaiba has 10 million cumulative copies of volume in circulation.

VIZ Media licensed the manga in English in July 2017 and published it simultaneously with the Japanese release of their Shounen Jump service. The eighth volume goes on sale on September 3, and the ninth volume will be published on November 5. Shueisha's Manga Plus platform also began publishing manga in English this January.

Kimetsu no Yaiba is ranked in the top 20 manga in the category of male readers in 2018 Kono Manga ga Sugoi.
